OBITUARY | Sister Angelita Laws, OSF

A memorial Mass for Sister Angelita Laws, OSF, was celebrated July 19 at Mother of Perpetual Help Residence in Shrewsbury. Sister Angelita, a Franciscan Sister of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, died July 1 at age 80.

Born in Monroe, Louisiana, Sister Angelita entered the Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in 1958 and professed final vows in 1964. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Marillac College and a master’s degree from Webster University.

Sister Angelita ministered as a teacher, specializing in mathematics. Named “Teacher of the Year,” Sister Angelita was recognized for the methods she utilized to assist students in understanding the more challenging elements of math and for improving students’ math scores.

In the Archdiocese of St. Louis, Sister Angelita taught at St. Adalbert School, St. Casimir School and Holy Ghost School. She also ministered in Clyde, Ohio; Weirton, West Virginia; Chicago; El Paso, Texas; Monroe, Louisiana; Fairview Heights, Illinois; and Dallas, Texas.

Franciscan at heart, Sister Angelita appreciated the outdoors on warm sunny days and always expressed gratitude for the opportunities afforded her to “praise, glorify and honor our loving God.”

Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery.
