OBITUARY | Father Robert E. Lampert
A funeral Mass for Father Robert E. Lampert will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, at the St. Vincent de Paul Chapel at the Cardinal Rigali Center in Shrewsbury. Father Lampert died Sept. 17 at the age of 82.
Born in Muncie, Indiana, on June 24, 1939, Father Lampert was the son of William and Agnes (McDonald) Lampert. Upon moving to St. Louis, he attended St. Louis Preparatory Seminary, Cardinal Glennon College and Kenrick Seminary. He was ordained on April 3, 1965, by Cardinal Joseph E. Ritter at St. Louis Priory.
He was an assistant pastor at St. Stephen in St. Louis (1965-67), St. Catherine of Alexandria in Riverview Gardens (1967-69), Ascension in Normandy, (1969-73), and Holy Redeemer in Webster Groves (1973-75). He was a teacher and chair of the religion department at Rosary High School from 1967-73. He attended Saint Louis University in the 1970s, where he earned a doctorate degree in moral theology.
In 1988, he was named pastor of Little Flower in Richmond Heights, where he remained until 1992.
Outside of the archdiocese, Father Lampert was a professor of moral theology at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas, and Washington Theological Union in the 1970s. He went to the Oblate School of Theology in San Antonio, Texas, where he was academic dean (1978-88) and professor of moral theology and academic vice president (1992-99). He was director of ethics at CHRISTUS Health Systems in Irving, Texas, from 1999 until his retirement in 2008.
Father Lampert had retired to Colorado Springs, Colorado, before returning to St. Louis in 2021.
