OBITUARY | Deacon Timothy Dolan

A funeral Mass for Deacon Timothy Dolan was celebrated on Oct. 19 at St. Gerard Majella Church in Kirkwood. Deacon Dolan died Oct. 1. He was 84 years old.

He was born in St. Louis and graduated from St. Bernadette Elementary School and Christian Brothers College High School. He earned a degree from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy. In his career, he served as a pharmacist for 50 years and retired from Schnucks in 2002.

He was ordained to the permanent diaconate on Feb. 11, 1989, at the Cathedral of Saint Louis by Archbishop John L. May. Deacon Dolan was assigned first to St. Joseph Parish in Manchester. In 1990, was assigned to St. Gerard Majella Parish in Kirkwood, where he served until retirement in 2020.

He served his parishes by presiding at baptisms, funeral services and weddings, leading marriage and baptism preparation, visiting nursing homes and making Communion calls to the homebound. He also served in pastoral care at Missouri Baptist, Des Peres and St. Clare hospitals and was a Marriage Tribunal advocate.

Deacon Dolan also served as a member of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council and the Deacon Personnel Board. In 2004, he was presented with the St. Stephen Award by the deacon community in recognition of his dedicated and committed service.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Kathleen; children, Daniel (Kara) Dolan of Leawood, Kansas, Julie (Jim) Atwell of Orlando, Florida, and the late infant son, Timothy; and eight grandchildren.
