OBITUARY | Deacon Stanley Peterson
A funeral Mass for Deacon Stanley Peterson was celebrated on Oct. 7 at St. Nicholas Church in St. Louis. Deacon Peterson died Sept. 25. He was 89.
Deacon Peterson was ordained on June 11, 1994, at the Cathedral of Saint Louis by Archbishop Justin F. Rigali. He was assigned to and assisted the pastor at St. Nicholas Parish in St. Louis, where he served until his retirement in 2013. He also served as a pastoral associate at the former Blessed Sacrament Parish in St. Louis. He served his parishes by presiding at baptisms, funeral services and weddings. Additionally, Deacon Peterson served by leading marriage and baptism preparation, visiting hospitals and nursing homes and making Communion calls to the homebound. He also led Bible study classes at his parish and the St. Charles Lwanga Center.
In his professional career, Deacon Peterson worked in various management capacities for the U.S. Postal Service in St. Louis.
Deacon Peterson is survived by his wife of 64 years, Doris Peterson (nee Reynolds); sons, Anthony and Mark Peterson; and one grandchild.
