OBITUARY | Deacon Robert Penberthy

A funeral Mass for Deacon Robert Penberthy was to be celebrated on March 14 at St. Paul Church in Fenton. Deacon Penberthy died March 2. He was 81.
Deacon Penberthy was ordained on June 12, 1993, at the Cathedral of St. Louis by Bishop Edward O’Donnell. He was first assigned to and assisted the pastor at the former Most Precious Blood Parish in Lemay. In 1996, Deacon Penberthy was assigned to the former St. George Parish in Affton, where he served until his retirement in 2017.
He served his parishes by presiding at Communion services, baptisms, funeral services and weddings. Deacon Penberthy also led RCIA, marriage and baptism preparation classes, visited hospitals and nursing homes, made Communion calls to the homebound and was a Marriage Tribunal Advocate. He was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus.
In his professional career, Deacon Penberthy worked as a dental lab technician and later as a building maintenance engineer for the Marriott Pavilion Hotel.
Deacon Penberthy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Linda Penberthy (nee Kuenzel); daughter, Amy (Stephen) Williams; and three grandchildren.
