As part of the All Things New strategic pastoral planning initiative, Catholics in the Archdiocese of St. Louis were invited to offer specific feedback about Catholic education in a survey released in the spring.
The All Things New education survey received 18,653 responses from parish and school community members throughout 15 regions of the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
Developed by a task force, including administrators, faculty, staff, parents and pastors in the archdiocese, the survey was intended to provide a snapshot of attitudes and beliefs about Catholic education in the Archdiocese of St. Louis, including Catholic schools and parish-based religious education programs.
The survey included questions for several audiences, including school parents, alumni, volunteers, donors, school faculty and staff, Parish School of Religion (PSR) parents and catechists.
Because of the focus on Catholic education across the entire Archdiocese of St. Louis, respondents did not provide feedback about a specific school or parish. Responses have been categorized anonymously by county. Survey respondents also were not required to have children currently attending a Catholic school or parish-based religious education program.
“Feedback from the education survey will help us establish benchmarks for what a vibrant Catholic school looks like, both in identity and mission,” said Father Christopher Martin, vicar for strategic planning.
The Office of Catholic Education and Formation and the Catholic education subcommittee for All Things New will continue to unpack the feedback as benchmarks are established for the future of Catholic education in the archdiocese.
