A social activist promoting life issues in Africa and around the world and a former fashion model will be among the speakers at the Catholic Women for Christ Conference next month.

The conference will take place Saturday, March 9, at the Touhill Performing Arts Center on the campus of the University of Missouri-St. Louis. It is sponsored by the archdiocesan Office of Marriage and Family Life and the Office of Missionary Discipleship.

Obianuju Ekeocha is an international speaker, author and social activist. Born and raised in southeastern Nigeria, she is the founder and president of Culture of Life Africa, which promotes a culture of life in Africa and beyond. She has worked with legislators and political influencers on issues concerning African women’s health, youth, families, health care, foreign aid, education and culture. Ekeocha also has worked with religious leaders across Africa and has co-authored several pro-life declarations with different African Catholic episcopal conferences.

Leah Darrow, a former participant on America’s Next Top Model, left her modeling career and now speaks internationally on living a life in accordance with the Gospel of Jesus. She has spoken on topics including modesty, chastity, mercy, conversion and human dignity.

Other speakers include Elizabeth Westhoff, communications director for the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in LaCrosse, Wis., and press secretary for Cardinal Raymond Burke; and Father Brian Fallon, director of the archdiocesan Office of Vocations.

Participants will have a chance to meet with other women on their faith journey. The conference also includes Mass, eucharistic adoration chapel, sacrament of reconciliation, viewing of religious relics and Catholic vendors offering items for sale.
