‘Called to be saints’
Boys turned out in droves for the annual Kenrick-Glennon Days summer camp at the seminary in Shrewsbury.
The gathering offered activities centered around the faith and more traditional summer camp festivities including the water Olympics, where campers vied for the candy-filled archbishop’s cup.
Tuesday afternoon of the camp featured sessions where the campers tested their faith knowledge with games like Catholic Jeopardy and processed through the halls of the seminary in mock eucharistic processions.
“The goal of Kenrick-Glennon Days is for kids to know that they’re called to be saints,” said Father Tony Ritter, the incoming vocations director for the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
At the same time, he said, the goal of the camp is to open up the possibility that some of the people here might be called to be priests.
“Have kids begin to ponder, ‘Lord, are You calling me to be a priest? Is that something You might want me to do?’” Father Ritter said.
The annual camp got its start a quarter century ago in 1999.
