St. Jude relic coming to St. Louis
A relic of the arm of the apostle St. Jude Thaddeus will make a stop in St. Louis on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at St. Joseph Parish, 567 St. Joseph Lane in Manchester. The stop is part of a tour hosted by Treasures of the Church through May 2024. The relic of St. Jude’s arm will be on display in a wooden reliquary in the shape of a priest’s arm imparting a blessing. Candlelight Mass for Life
The Cenacle for Life at St. Anselm Parish, 530 S. Mason Road in Creve Coeur, will host a Candlelight Mass at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, to commemorate Respect Life Month. Prayers will be offered for the return to a culture that supports human life from the moment of conception until natural death.
Sixty-three candles will be placed at the foot of the altar, each one representing over 1,000,000 babies who have been aborted in the U.S. since the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision in 1973. Prayers also will be offered for pregnant mothers who are experiencing difficulties or contemplating abortion, that they will be supported so they may choose life for their babies and care for them after birth, and for fathers to assume the great responsibility given by God.
Holy Hour for vocations
A Holy Hour for priestly and religious vocations will be held from 7-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at the Monastery of St. Clare (Poor Clare nuns), 200 Marycrest Drive in south St. Louis County. The monastery is located off the 6000 block of Telegraph Road.
Respect Life Conference
The archdiocesan Respect Life Apostolate will host its 50th Anniversary Conference from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, at the Cardinal Rigali Center in Shrewsbury. The conference will begin with Mass at 9 a.m. in the St. Vincent de Paul Chapel, followed by light refreshments.
Topics and speakers include best practices in pro-life messaging and conversations, with Nikolas Nikas of the Bioethics Defense Fund; “Pro-Life Successes in Missouri and the U.S.” with Michael New of the Charlotte Lozier Institute and Catholic University of America; and a panel discussion on the abortion ballot initiative in Missouri, featuring Kathy Forck of 40 Days for Life and the Midwest March for Life, pro-life lobbyist Deacon Sam Lee of Campaign Life Missouri and Sue Liebel of the Susan B. Surviving Divorce
“Surviving Divorce: Hope and Healing for the Catholic Family,” a 12-week DVD program, will begin Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Immaculate Conception Parish in Dardenne Prairie. Sessions will be held at 7 p.m. and will feature Catholic experts who present Church teaching, along with lay men and women who share their challenges on the way to healing. Rozanski will give the opening invocation at the Interfaith Partnership of St. Louis dinner celebration at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the Wool Ballroom of Saint Louis University. The Summit vocations event
The archdiocesan Office of Youth Ministry is teaming up with the Office of Vocations to host “The Summit,” a vocations event for middle school youths, on Friday, Nov. 10, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center on the campus of the University of Missouri-St. Louis. The day will include talks, prayer, music, time to interact with men and women religious and Mass with Archbishop Mitchell T. Rozanski. Registration for the event opens on Monday, Oct. 2.
