OBITUARY | Sister Mary Ann Luth, OSU

Sister Mary Ann Luth, OSU, died July 28 at St. Andrews at Francis Place in Eureka. She was 100 and had served many years in the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

The daughter of Louis H. and Marie Burke Luth, she was born May 28, 1920, in St. Louis. She graduated from Ursuline Academy in 1938, entered the Ursuline Sisters in 1940 and professed her vows in 1943. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of New Rochelle in New York and a master’s degree from Saint Louis University.

An educator for more than 40 years, Sister Mary Ann she taught at Ursuline Academy from 1946-48 and 1949-55 and was principal from 1955-59. She taught at Eugene Coyle High School in Kirkwood from 1948-49.

She was president of Springfield College in Springfield, Illinois, from 1975-78. She taught at Marquette High School in Alton, Illinois, from 1971-73 and 1978-80 and was alumnae coordinator at Marquette from 1980-93. She was a councilor on the Central Province leadership team from 1966-71. She also served in Frontenac, Minnesota, and New Orleans, Louisiana.

Sister Mary Ann is survived by her brother Frederick J. Luth. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date.
