Twisted gifter

St. John Vianney High School in Kirkwood teamed up with locally owned Pretzel Boy’s for a delivery to all Vianney students, faculty and staff the week of March 30. It’s a gift from Vianney President Mike Loyet Class of 1977 to acknowledge the work of the school community under extraordinary conditions. The owner of Pretzel Boy’s, Tim Garvey, says Vianney’s 572 delivery orders means he can keep his staff employed longer in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Garvey plans to pay it forward by donating more than 1,000 pretzels in Vianney’s name to an area food pantry. Vianney moved to distance learning on March 24, following the protocols shared by local, regional, and national authorities. The school’s mission since its founding in 1960 is to form young men for spiritual, academic and personal excellence in the Catholic, Marianist tradition. This partnership with Pretzel Boy’s allows the school to support a local business while supporting its community.

For Holy Week

In 1999, three Catholic men from St. Louis, Ray Duffy with Zip Rzeppa and the late Declan Duffy, founded a musical group, Eyes of the Heart, to offer live performances and CDs to 17 parishes in the archdiocese. The body of work included four meditations honoring Jesus, Our Heavenly Father, The Holy Spirit and Our Blessed Mother. They ceased doing live performances in 2008 when Declan Duffy’s health began to decline. To honor his memory, the remaining members of the group developed a website, www.eyesoftheheart.us, which features an online version of the four meditative works. One of the works is “A Requiem for Jesus,” a meditation on the seven last sentences spoken by Jesus on the cross.
