Affordable and accessible: Tuition assistance helps with future of Catholic education
Scholarship application process for the 2020-21 school year begins with Catholic Schools Week
Millions of dollars in scholarships and financial aid are given to families each year for their children to attend Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
Working behind the scenes to make that possible are several entities, including the Today and Tomorrow Educational Foundation, the Beyond Sunday campaign of the Roman Catholic Foundation of Eastern Missouri, the Annual Catholic Appeal, the Office of Catholic Education and Formation, the Archdiocese of St. Louis and other partners.
More than $25 million in tuition assistance is distributed annually to families for their children to attend Catholic schools, not to mention additional aid that comes from individual parishes.
Catholic Schools Week marks the opening of the scholarship application process for the 2020-21 school year. Beginning Jan. 27, families may apply for scholarships to attend any elementary school in the Archdiocese of St. Louis, any Catholic high school and any private elementary school in the City of St. Louis. Online applications are available at www.ttef-stl.org. The deadline is Friday, Feb. 28.
Families have the opportunity to apply for scholarship assistance through a unified online application, which is used for all scholarships funded by the Office of Catholic Education and Formation, Today and Tomorrow and Beyond Sunday. The Today and Tomorrow scholarship office administers tuition assistance scholarships on behalf of all entities.
The Today and Tomorrow Educational Foundation was founded in 1991 by Archbishop John L. May and Sister Mary Ann Eckhoff, SSND, with support from the local business community, to provide partial tuition assistance scholarships to help low-income children attend faith-based schools. The foundation has raised more than $125 million for scholarships from local and national funding sources since its inception.
The Beyond Sunday campaign, led by the Roman Catholic Foundation, concluded in October 2017 as the most successful capital campaign in the history of the Archdiocese of St. Louis. The campaign raised $110 million; 60% of pledges built the Beyond Sunday Education Fund to fund scholarships and school/PSR grants, and 40%, less campaign expenses, was returned to individual parishes to address local needs.
