OBITUARY | Sister Margaret Mary Judge, SSND

A funeral Mass for Sister Margaret Mary (Maggi) Judge was celebrated Aug. 16 at the Theresa Center at Sancta Maria in Ripa, St. Louis. Sister Maggi, 68, died Aug. 10 in St. Louis. She was a School Sister of Notre Dame for 48 years and an educator for 47 years.

The daughter of Lawrence Judge and Margaret Mary Powers Judge, she was born Aug. 26, 1950, in St. Louis. She had three sisters and three brothers, including Sister Kathleen Judge, SSND, and brother, Father Tony Judge, CSSR. In 1968, she entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame and made profession in 1971. She earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the former Notre Dame College in St. Louis in 1972 and a master’s degree in elementary education from Boston College in Massachusetts in 1982.

For her first 11 years of ministry, Sister Maggi was a junior high teacher at Our Lady of Sorrows, St. Louis (1972-76); Our Lady of Lourdes, Washington (1976-77); and St. Peter Cathedral, Belleville, Ill. (1977-83). For the next 36 years (1983-2019), she ministered at St. Charles Borromeo School in St. Charles as a teacher, tutor, assistant principal and administrative assistant.

Sister Maggi is survived by her sisters, Sister Kathleen Judge; Maryellen Judge and Patricia Milstein; her brothers, Father Tony Judge, CSSR, and Larry Judge. Burial was in the Sancta Maria in Ripa Cemetery in St. Louis.
