Obituary | Sr. Ann Miriam Stenger, FSM
The funeral Mass for Sister Ann Miriam Stenger was celebrated May 20 in the chapel at The Sarah Community in Bridgeton.
Sister Ann Miriam, a Franciscan Sister of Mary for 74 years, died May 13 at The Sarah Community. She was 96.
Born Emma Josephine Stenger in Glennonville, Mo., the second child of 16, she was a 1940 graduate of Glennonville High School and entered the Sisters of St. Mary in 1944. She professed final vows in 1950. Three of her sisters also joined the congregation. (The Sisters of St. Mary and the Sisters of St. Francis of Maryville, Mo., reunited in August 1987 as the Franciscan Sisters of Mary.)
From 1950-57, Sister Ann Miriam worked in the business office at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kansas City. She then served in the admitting clinical office at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital until 1966 when she became manager of patient accounts at St. Mary’s Health Center in St. Louis, where she remained until 1995.
Sister Ann Miriam then served as a community director at St. Mary of the Angels Convent, assisting with the elder sisters. She continued to be a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Mary prayer program and moved to The Sarah Community in 2010.
Survivors include three sisters, Clara Herzog of De Soto, Clementine Lampe of Black, Mo., and Patricia Stenger of Kansas City, Mo.; and two brothers, Father Joseph Stenger, CSSR, of Liguori, Mo., and Edward Stenger of Jonesburg, Mo. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery in St. Louis.
