Sister Gregory Heggemann, CPPS

The funeral Mass for Sister Gregory Heggemann was celebrated Aug. 18 at St. Joseph Chapel of the Sisters of the Most Precious Blood in O’Fallon. Sister Gregory, 91, died Aug. 14.

Born Geneva Heggemann in Concord Hill, she entered the Sisters of the Most Precious Blood in 1948 and professed vows in 1950.

Sister Gregory was a cook and homemaker and was known for providing sense of home in every place where she served. She served at St. Agnes in Bloomsdale; Holy Family, St. Elizabeth Academy and the Archbishop’s Residence, all in St. Louis; St. Monica in Creve Coeur; St. Domenico Home in University City; and Sacred Heart in Florissant. She also served in Charleston, Mo., and Omaha, Neb. In 2002, she retired from full-time ministry and in 2017 she moved to skilled care at Mount Carmel in O’Fallon.

In addition to her culinary skills, Sister Gregory also was a seamstress, quilter and knitter. She sewed her own clothes and knitted and crocheted scarves, hats, sweaters and baby items for members of her religious community, family and friends.

Survivors include a brother, Jerome Heggemann. Burial was in the convent cemetery.
