Obituary | Sr. Catherine Albers, OSF
A funeral Mass for Sister Catherine Albers was celebrated Jan. 4 at Our Lady of Angels Convent Chapel in Wheaton, Ill.
Sister Catherine, 96, died Dec. 27 at Resurrection Life Center in Chicago.
Born in St. Louis, she entered the Wheaton Franciscan order in 1938 and professed perpetual vows in 1944. Sister Catherine received a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in health administration.
Sister Catherine served as a nurse and as an administrator in several of the Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare Hospitals of Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri and Michigan. In St. Louis, she served at St. Anthony’s Medical Center. She was also a nurse and midwife in Brazil and Nigeria and Vredenburgh, Ala. Sister Catherine also served the Wheaton Franciscan community in local leadership and as a member of the finance committee and the social justice committee, on hospital boards and as a volunteer with DuPage Community Clinic and People’s Resource Center.
Survivors include a sister, Theresa Albers, and brother, Jerome Albers.
