A funeral Mass for Sister Claire Marie McLevy was celebrated Dec. 23 in the Marian Hall Chapel in Dubuque, Iowa.
Sister Claire Marie, 92, died Dec. 20 at Marian Hall.
Born in Kansas City, Mo., she participated in basketball, school plays, glee club and playing trumpet in the band as a high school student. After graduation, she worked one year for Hallmark and an insurance company while discerning her vocation. She entered the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary congregation in 1942 and professed first vows in 1945 and final vows in 1950. Sister Claire received a bachelor’s degree in education from Clarke University in Dubuque in 1959.
In the Archdiocese of St. Louis, Sister taught at the former St. Francis Xavier (College Church) School. She was an elementary school teacher in Kansas City, Mo.; Montrose, Calif.; and Chicago, where she was also a staff worker at Wright Hall, a Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary residence in Chicago. She volunteered at an adult day care center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Burial is in Mount Carmel cemetery, Dubuque.
