OBITUARY | Sister Mary Judith Ann Carron, RSM

Sister Mary Judith Ann Carron, RSM, died on Nov. 27 at Catherine’s Residence in St. Louis. She was 84 years old and a Sister of Mercy for 64 years.

She was born on July 20, 1940, in St. Louis. She entered the Sisters of Mercy on Sept. 8, 1960, in Frontenac. She professed temporary vows on Aug. 16, 1963, and perpetual vows on Aug. 16, 1968.

Sister Judith received a degree in nursing from St. John’s Hospital in St. Louis on June 1, 1964; a degree in nursing from Saint Louis University in 1966; certification in theology from the Jesuit School of Theology at Loyola University in Chicago in 1976; advanced certificate, U.S. Catholic Chaplains in 1985; advanced certificate in chaplaincy from the National Association of Catholic Chaplains in 2000; and advanced certification, pediatric palliative care, nursing trainer in 2003.

Sister Judith served as pediatrics supervisor and assistant director of nursing at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield (1966-73), a member of the Sisters of Mercy Formation Team for New Membership (1976-77), infection control nurse and chaplain at Mercy Hospital in Washington, Missouri (1977-79) and pastoral counselor and chaplain at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis (1987-2000).

She was the primary board member for Mercy Health System of St. Louis from 2000-11, serving the boards in New Orleans, Springfield, Joplin and Jefferson County. She then returned to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital as care coordinator and chaplain of the Footprints Program from 2002-19 and exceptional experience coordinator from 2019-22.

Sister Judith moved to Catherine’s Residence in Frontenac in January 2023.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Milton and Dorothy L. Fink Carron, and her brother Tom (Lisa) Carron. She is survived by her siblings Robert (Paulette) Carron and Phyllis (Jim) Johnson of St. Louis and Jim (Terri) Carron of Connecticut, in addition to a host of nieces, nephews and their children.

A private funeral Mass will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
