The Holy Spirit coming upon the Gentile Cornelius and his household is truly a fascinating experience both for the early Church and for us. It certainly took Peter by surprise because Jews were forbidden to enter the homes of Gentiles because it would render them unclean. Yet it is into this Gentile home that the Holy Spirit descends!

In His love for us, the God-man took on flesh and blood at the Annunciation, and on Calvary He surrendered His tortured flesh and blood for our salvation. During His earthly life Christ pursued us until we crucified Him. Even crucifixion did not deter Him from pursuing us! He rose from the dead, and continued to pursue us in His post-Resurrection appearances!

If Adam and Eve had not sinned, life would be a bowl of cherries, but the fact is that they did sin, and life is not a bowl of cherries!

Mankind's fall has been profound, but even more profound has been God's response to the fall by giving us Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord. The stakes are high, God or Satan, my will or God's will! That is why God is so relentless in pursuing us.
