Obituary | Sister Mary Vianney Johnson, RSM

A funeral Mass for Sister Mary Vianney Johnson was celebrated Feb. 6 at Mercy Center Chapel in St. Louis. Sister Vianney, a member of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, died Feb. 2 at the age of 84.

Born Joann Cecilia Johnson in St. Louis, she graduated from Mercy High School in St. Louis and earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Webster College in St. Louis and a master's degree in education administration from St. Louis University. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1951 in St. Louis, and made perpetual vows in 1957.

OBITUARY | Sr. Mary Jonette Rolando, RSM

A funeral Mass was celebrated for Sister Mary Jonette Rolando Oct. 13 at Mercy Center in Frontenac.

Sister Mary Jonette, 84, died at Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur Oct. 9 following heart failure. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in St. Louis in 1960.

Obituary | Sister Barbara Karleskint, RSM

A funeral Mass for Sister Barbara Karleskint, RSM, was celebrated Sept. 9, in the chapel at Catherine's Residence, where she had resided since 2006. Sister Barbara died on Sept. 8 at her residence. She was 98 and a had been a Sister of Mercy for 80 years.

Born in Miami, Okla., Sister entered the Sisters of Mercy on June 20, 1937 and pronounced first vows on March 12, 1940. She was known as Sister Mary Clarence at that time.

A memorial Mass for Sister Mary Geralda Schaefer, RSM, will be celebrated in early February at Catherine's Residence in St. Louis.

Sister Mary Geralda, 98, died Jan. 18 at Catherine's Residence.

Obituary | Sr. Mary Angelita Heinrich, RSM

A funeral Mass for Sister Mary Angelita Heinrich, RSM, was celebrated Jan. 10 at Catherine's Residence in St. Louis.

Sister Mary Angelita died Jan. 6. She was 91 years old and had been a Sister of Mercy for 73 years.

Sister Mary Angelita was a teacher and principal at schools in Missouri and Texas. She also ministered in the development office and library at Mount St. Mary High School in Oklahoma, was superintendent of schools for the Diocese of Amarillo, Texas, for six years and served as archivist for the Sisters of Mercy St. Louis Regional Community for 11 years.

Obituary | Sr. Mary Brian Rafferty, RSM

A funeral Mass for Sister Mary Brian Rafferty was celebrated Jan. 2 in the chapel at the Mercy Sisters' Catherine's Residence Chapel in Creve Coeur.

Sister Mary Brian, an educator for 55 years before retiring in 2010, died Dec. 29. She was 84.

Born in New Orleans, she entered the Sisters of Mercy community in 1950 and professed final vows in 1956. Sister Mary Brian received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Webster College in St. Louis in 1955 and a master's degree in special education from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee in 1971.
