A memorial Mass for Sister Kara Ryan was celebrated April 6 in the School Sisters of Notre Dame Theresa Center chapel in south St. Louis County.

Sister Kara died March 23 at Maria Health Care Center in Baltimore. She was 81 and a former teacher, computer programmer and professor.

A funeral Mass for Deacon Thomas A. Buhr Sr. was held March 25 at St. Joseph Church in Manchester. Deacon Buhr died March 23. He was 78.

Pittsburgh Steelers chairman Dan Rooney, lifelong Catholic, dies at 84

PITTSBURGH — Dan Rooney, a beloved Pittsburgh icon as longtime chairman of the Pittsburgh Steelers, died April 13 at age 84 after a brief illness.

He was remembered by sports figures and church leaders alike for his humility and leadership.

In his nearly eight decades with the Steelers, the team won six Super Bowl titles. Rooney also served as U.S. ambassador to Ireland from 2009 to 2012.

Obituary | Fr. Joseph R. Monahan

A memorial Mass for Father Joseph R. Monahan was celebrated April 5 in the chapel at Mary Queen and Mother Center in Shrewsbury. Father Monahan died March 28 at age 80.

Born in Philadelphia, Pa., Father Monahan attended St. Joseph Preparatory High School and St. Charles Seminary in Philadelphia. He was ordained in 1962 in Philadelphia by Cardinal John Krol and incardinated into the Archdiocese of St. Louis in 1980.

Obituary | Sister Clairerita Atha, CSJ

A funeral Mass for Sister Clairerita Atha, CSJ, was celebrated March 30 at Nazareth Living Center. She was 84 and had been a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet for 65 years.

Born in St. Joseph, Mo., she entered the community in 1951, received a habit and the name Sister Alan Margaret in 1952 and made final profession in 1959. After a brief stint teaching Catholic grade school in Kansas City, Mo., she focused her ministry on nursing, earning a bachelor's degree in nursing in 1957 from the College of St. Teresa (now Avila University) in Kansas City.

A funeral Mass for Marianist Brother Thomas Tessmer was celebrated March 20 in San Antonio. Brother Tom died March 13 at Marianist Residence Community in San Antonio. He was 81 and a Marianist for 62 years.
