OBITUARY | Sr. Dorothy Scheopner, SL

A funeral Mass for Loretto Sister Dorothy (formerly Sister Mary Stephanie) Scheopner was celebrated Oct. 28 at the Church of the Seven Dolors at the Loretto Motherhouse in Nerinx, Ky.

Sister Dorothy, who taught and tutored for 21 years in the St. Louis Archdiocese, died Oct. 16 at Loretto Motherhouse Infirmary. She was 82 and in her 60th year as a Sister of Loretto at the Foot of the Cross.

OBITUARY | Ann Prebil

A funeral Mass for Ann Prebil was celebrated Oct. 28 at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in University City. A co-founder of the Creighton Model FertilityCare System who taught the method all over the world, Prebil died Oct. 23 after a nearly nine-year battle with ovarian cancer. She was 71 years old.

OBITUARY | Sr. Alice Hein, CSJ

A memorial Mass for Sister Alice Hein was celebrated Oct. 20 at Nazareth Living Center in south St. Louis County. A longtime teacher and principal, Sister Alice died Oct. 17 at Nazareth Living Center. She was 96 and a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet for 75 years.

Born in Unity, Wis., Sister Alice met the Sisters of St. Joseph at the Academy in Green Bay, Wis. After graduation from the academy, she and a friend took the train to St. Louis, where she entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1941. She made final profession in 1947.

Obituary | Deacon John B. Wainscott

The funeral Mass for Deacon John B. Wainscott was celebrated Nov. 3 at St. Justin Martyr Church in Sunset Hills. He was 76 and had been a deacon for 10 years.

Born on June 23, 1941, in Columbia, S.C., Deacon Wainscott served in the United States Navy for more than 20 years and served the youth in the St. Louis area as a district director in the Boy Scouts of America for more than 10 years. He most recently was the director of the Il Ritiro Retreat Center in Dittmer.

OBITUARY | Sr. Darlene (Margherita) Fulgenzi, OSU

A funeral Mass was celebrated for Ursuline Sister Darlene (Margherita) Fulgenzi Oct. 20 at St. Joseph Church in Springfield, Ill. Sister Darlene died Oct. 11 at St. Andrew's at Francis Place in Eureka. She was 79.

Born in Springfield, Ill., she attended St. Joseph elementary school and Ursuline Academy in Springfield, graduating in 1956. She entered the Ursuline Sisters in July 1956 and professed vows in January 1959. She earned a bachelor's degree in classical languages from the College of New Rochelle in New Rochelle, N.Y., and a master's degree in Latin from St. Louis University.

OBITUARY | Deacon James Burton

A funeral Mass was celebrated for Deacon James Burton Oct. 23 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in south St. Louis. Deacon Burton, who served his entire diaconate at St. Gerard Majella Parish in Kirkwood, died Oct. 13. He was 87.

Deacon Burton, age 87, was born in 1930 in Oklahoma City, Okla. He was married to Jeanine Burton, (nee McGuigan) on Jan. 13, 1951, and had 10 children: Robert, Richard, Jean, Janet, James ("Max"), Tom, John, Joe, Anne and the late Dr. Frank. They also had 48 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Deacon Burton served for three years in the United States Navy.
