The Discalced Carmelites make a profession of four vows: poverty, chastity, obedience and enclosure.

'Son of God' movie 'a love story,' say husband-wife producers

Diogo Morgado stars in a scene from the movie "Son of God." The upcoming movie should be seen as "a love story," according to two of its executive producers, the husband-and-wife team of Mark Burnett and Roma Downey.

WASHINGTON  — The upcoming movie "Son of God" should be seen as "a love story," according to two of its executive producers, the husband-and-wife team of Mark Burnett and Roma Downey.

"This really is a love story -- the greatest love story ever told," Downey said.

The couple brought the 10-hour miniseries "The Bible" to television last year, garnering sizable ratings on the History cable channel.

Among those 10 hours was the story of Jesus. But Burnett and Downey decided even before the miniseries was televised that they would make a separate movie focusing on Jesus.

NEW YORK -- Rick Santorum has turned his sights from the Beltway to the big screen.

Santorum, the former U.S. senator from Pennsylvania and 2012 presidential candidate, recently described the current state of movies as "a very, very dark world." But instead of simply complaining, he wants to do something about it and shed some light into that darkness.

This past June, Santorum became CEO of the Dallas faith-based film production company EchoLight Studios. Among the studio's current projects is "The Christmas Candle," expected to open in 400 to 500 theaters across the country.

Message for modern times seen in story of St. Augustine's conversion

Franco Nero portrays St. Augustine later in his life in a scene from the movie “Restless Heart.” The movie is a full-length feature film on the life of St. Augustine, the fifth-century Doctor of the Church.

WASHINGTON -- St. Augustine's "Confessions," the autobiographical account of his sinful youth and eventual conversion to Christianity, may be a centuries-old story but its message still resonates today, according to the head of Ignatius Press.

For the first time, a feature film -- titled "Restless Heart" -- will tell the story of the fifth-century Doctor of the Church's journey to faith, said Mark Brumley, CEO of Ignatius Press.
