GUEST COLUMNIST | Stewardship: A renewal of our personal covenant with God

God has been making covenants with mankind since Adam and Eve. Remember Abraham, Moses, David, Noah and the New Covenant with Jesus, to name several. Covenants are part of our faith and sacred tradition.

Every year in the fall, many parishes celebrate their annual parish stewardship renewal. It's a time for both parish communities and individual parishioners to reflect on the gifts they have been given and then, in gratitude, return to God a small portion for everything He has given us.

GUEST COLUMNIST | Charlottesville: The antidote is in the venom

Once, the Ku Klux Klan came out primarily at night, carrying torches with their faces covered by hoods with ghostly openings for eyes.

Not anymore.

They were out in droves in Charlottesville, Va., in mid-August. Their faces were unmasked and held high, unapologetic. They joined hundreds of white supremacists and others protesting the February vote by the City Council to remove a statue from Lee Park that has memorialized Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee since 1924. In June, the city renamed Lee Park Emancipation Park.
