“Faith moves mountains”

In the midst of massive flooding in the first week of May, organized efforts and individual efforts helped in the emergency to save life and limb, homes and possessions, and businesses and inventory along the Meramec River — from Pacific in the west to Arnold in the south.

Two such efforts stand out as testaments to the brotherhood of man and to the power of prayer.

Oklahoma disaster: Time for love of neighbor

On an NBC news special covering the tornado that hit an Oklahoma City suburb May 20, a teacher at a public elementary school that took a direct hit explained how she gathered students in as safe a place as possible -- a bathroom stall -- and tried to calm their fears.

Then, she told the reporter, "I did the teacher thing we're probably not supposed to do -- I prayed, and I prayed out loud."
