Nearly one year after it was introduced here, the Saint John's Bible will find a permanent home at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis.

The Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis was named among the “66 Reasons to Love St. Louis,” picked in no particular order in a campaign sponsored by Phillips 66.

Virginia and Bill Barella of Pittsburgh were in awe of the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis, and they weren't surprised about its most recent accolade.

"There are no words to describe this," Virginia Barella said as she and Bill looked around the cathedral basilica. She teaches a class in mosaic art at a craft store in Pittsburgh.

Msgr. Pins

Msgr. Joseph D. Pins, a pillar of the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis Parish where he served as rector since 2004, died June 17 of cancer at Mother of Good Counsel Home in north St. Louis County. He was 70.

A public viewing is scheduled from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 22, and a funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, June 23, at 10 a.m., both at the cathedral basilica.

Msgr. Pins once said that the cathedral basilica was a place that strengthened his faith over the years. Others have said that his presence there and at his other assignments strengthened their faith.

Organ concerts to be held at cathedral basilica during summer

The Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis will host a series of free organ concerts in July and August.

The International Organ Concert Series, sponsored by Kiepper Pipe Organs, will be presented at 8 p.m. Thursdays, July 11-Aug. 15.
