Review, Catholic St. Louis receive top honors from Catholic Press Association

A sampling of the issues that were awarded at the Catholic Press Association Awards ceremony.

The St. Louis Review and Catholic St. Louis received a combined 36 awards from the Catholic Press Association at the Catholic Media Conference awards banquet June 23 at Laval University in Quebec, Canada.

One of the appearances is on Tuesday, Nov. 15. Former Baltimore Raven Matt Birk will be the keynote speaker at the Vitae Foundation Pro-Life Event in St. Charles. Birk was the headline speaker at the March for Life this year, giving a powerful witness to the value of life.

For years, Maureen Curran watched as her father and two other gentlemen from the Society of St. Vincent de Paul at Sacred Heart ministered to people in need.

In those days, the pastor would usually get a call — sometimes a knock at the door — from someone at the parish seeking help. Maybe it was a family in need of food or clothing. Or someone down on his luck who couldn't keep up with the bills.

Review captures 22 Catholic press awards for writing, photography and general excellence


The St. Louis Review and Catholic St. Louis magazine earned 22 awards for writing, photography, design, multimedia and general excellence at the 2016 Catholic Press Association awards ceremony June 3 in St. Louis.

The Review won third place in general excellence in weekly newspapers with circulation of 25,001 or more. Judges wrote that the paper “presented a variety of articles and viewpoints on topics ranging from the relationship of fish and Lent to the homeless community, to safety in Catholic schools. Great writing.”
