Call it a match made in heaven

Mary T. and Pat Dolan stood on the altar with their matchmaker and his brother, now-Archbishop Timothy Dolan.

How many people can say they were fixed up by an archbishop?

Couple celebrated as longest married in Missouri

Marie and Vince “Jimmy” Sanfilippo danced the night away at a Mass and Sweetheart Dance Feb. 12 at Immaculate Conception Parish in Maplewood, honoring them as the longest-married couple in the state of Missouri. The event was sponsored by Worldwide Marriage Encounter, which calls itself the largest faith-based, pro-marriage movement in the world. Father Robert Roseborough, part of the ecclesial team for Worldwide Marriage Encounter in St. Louis, celebrated the Mass.

It’s clear Vince “Jimmy” Sanfilippo has never forgotten the reaction of his Italian friends and family when he brought home his American girlfriend for everyone to meet.

Sanfilippo and Marie Svetlik met on a double date in 1934. They went to a dance, and soon, they began going steady, sometimes attending dances three nights a week.

“When I brought her to meet my Mom, everyone said, ‘There goes that American girl, and a dance hall girl at that!’” Sanfilippo said with a hearty laugh. “Oh my goodness, that was terrible! I’ll never forget that.”

John and Mary (Dolly) Kadlec recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. The members of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Columbia, Mo., share a love of Mizzou football, their family and each other

Not surprisingly, when John and Mary (Dolly) Kadlek look at their marriage they make an analogy to football.

"We've always tried to do a lot of things together and work together as a team. If you raise the kids as a team, you're both on the same page, your philosophy of discipline is the same," said John, who knows a little about teamwork, having been a player and longtime coach, administrator and radio color analyst for the University of Missouri-Columbia football Tigers.
