The 31st annual Mass commemorating the life and works of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be at 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, at the Basilica of St. Louis King of France (Old Cathedral), 209 Walnut St. Downtown.

Week of prayer for unity scheduled January 18-25

The 99th annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity will be celebrated Thursday, Jan. 18, through Thursday, Jan. 25, at Catholic parishes and other faith communities in the area.

The theme of this year’s unity octave is "Open Our Ears and Loosen Our Tongues," from Mark 7:31-37. Catholics are being asked to pray for the unity of Christians worldwide.

The week’s activities include:

St. Peter Parish, 243 W. Argonne Drive in Kirkwood, will host an ecumenical prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25. Several other area churches are co-sponsoring it.

The St. Louis Hills Clergy Alliance, which includes St. Gabriel and St. Raphael parishes, will hold its annual ecumenical prayer service 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, at St. Gabriel, 6303 Nottingham Ave. The service is co-sponsored by several other area churches. Several churches will join to offer an ecumenical prayer service 6:30 p.m. Jan. 21 in the chapel at Eden Theological Seminary, 475 E. Lockwood Ave. in Webster Groves.
