Pentecost

The Catholic Renewal Center will host an archdiocesan-wide Pentecost Vigil Mass at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at Holy Redeemer Church, 17 Joy Ave. in Webster Groves. Bishop Robert J. Hermann will be the celebrant.

Scholar Bowl champs

Congratulations to St. Louis Priory School, which won in Class 3 in the state Scholar Bowl Championships, held May 4 at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Priory, which had a record of 27-8, beat Hallsville High School by a score of 400-390 in the final match. Team coach is Gayle Reichle.

Archbishop's Gala

The fourth annual Archbishop's Gala to benefit the Today and Tomorrow Educational Foundation will be Thursday evening, April 25, at the Missouri Athletic Club in Downtown St. Louis. The event, which will begin at 6 p.m., raises funds to help provide needs-based scholarships for families seeking Catholic elementary education for their children. Laura Gallaher and her students

Outstanding teacher

Laura Gallaher, a second-grade teacher at St. Gabriel the Archangel School in south St. Louis, has been named a Peabody Energy Leader in Education for the current school year. Gallaher was chosen for her compassion and commitment to her students, providing a "caring, safe and fun environment, where each student blossoms and grows," according to Peabody Energy.
