In memoriam

Karen Basden, principal and teacher at St. Joseph School in Bonne Terre, died Jan. 24 at age 52. A funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 28 for Mrs. Basden at her parish, St. Joseph in Bonne Terre. A longtime educator, she had served the last six years at St. Joseph School and prior to that taught in the Valley R-6 School District for 24 years. Survivors include her husband, Frank Basden, and three sons, Robert, Ryan and Rory; her mother, Loretta Neier; and four siblings. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Standing up for life

As thousands of St. Louisans and other journey to Washington, D.C., for the the 39th annual March for Life Jan. 23, pro-life advocates who remain at home can stand in solidarity with those on the march. The annual Roe vs. Wade memorial Mass of the archdiocese will be at 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis, Lindell Boulevard and Newstead Avenue in the Central West End. After Mass, Auxiliary Bishop Edward Rice will lead a Rosary procession to the nearby Planned Parenthood abortion facility.

Migration Mass

St. Pius V Parish will have its annual Migration Mass at 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, at St. Pius V Church, 3310 S. Grand Blvd. (at Utah Street) in south St. Louis. Everyone is invited to the multi-cultural celebration, observed on Epiphany Sunday. A potluck lunch featuring international dishes will be held in the parish hall after Mass. Everyone is welcome and invited to wear the ethnic dress of their heritage and bring food representing their family heritage. Welcome, Scouts

The archdiocesan Office of Catholic Scouting and the St. Louis members of the Catholic Committee on Scouting BSA are hosting the World Council Meeting of the International Catholic Conference of Scouting Thursday-Sunday, Dec. 1-4. During the conference, they will explore ways to promote vocations and minister to young people through Scouting. Bound for Neverland

Members of the Assumption Parish Youth Group rehearsed for their upcoming performance of "Peter Pan, " to be held at 7 p.m. Friday-Saturday, Nov. 18-19, and 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, at Assumption School, 113 W. Third St. in O'Fallon. Tickets are $10 for adults and teens, $5 children 12 and under, family of 5 or more $30. For tickets call Chris Howell, 636-978-1941, or go online to assumptionbvm.org.
