The mother of God loves all her children.

"She's the one who can help us," said Anna Maria Usselmann of Our Lady of Guadalupe for Life.

That's why near Ferguson was chosen as the next spot for the group's ninth billboard. The billboard, which was placed this week along westbound I-70 at Goodfellow Boulevard near the city-county line, includes an image of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the message, "Love your Babies, Born & Unborn." The billboards also have a phone number for OptionLine, 1-800-712-4357(HELP), which connects individuals with pregnancy resource centers for one-on-one help.

Usselmann, founder and president of the nonprofit organization, said she hopes the Blessed Mother's presence will serve as a protective blanket over the area, which has experienced unrest since the fatal officer-involved shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson.

"She can protect all of St. Louis," Usselmann said. "She is the one who can bring peace and keep us united. She's the one -- north, south, east, west -- who can bring us all together."

DDI Media helped place this billboard as well as seven others among the group's nine in the area. According to Bill Hency, sales manager at DDI Media, more than 670,000 cars pass by the billboards per day. Other locations include: I-44 near Rolla, I-70 at Concordia, Mo., I-55 near Barnhart, I-55 along Broadway, I-70 at I-270, and I-44 near Highway 141 in both directions. Another billboard, placed through CBS Outdoor, is located along South Grand Avenue in south St. Louis.

Usselmann said that Our Lady's message of peace and love for all human life should be taken seriously in this time of uncertainty in the local community. The stories she hears from people who have seen the billboards over the years extend beyond pregnancy help.

"People are coming back to the Church after 20-25 years," she said. "This is how the Blessed Mother works."

Our Lady of Guadalupe for Life relies on donations to keep the billboards along the roadways. Donations can be sent to Our Lady of Guadalupe for Life, P.O. Box 22024, St. Louis, MO 63126. For more information, call Anna Maria Usselmann at (314) 487-2066.
