Obituary | Deacon Robert G. Farley
A funeral Mass was celebrated Aug. 11 at Assumption Church in south St. Louis County for Deacon Robert G. Farley, who was involved in a number of ministries at Assumption Parish.
Deacon Farley died Aug. 6 at age 68. He was born in St. Louis. After having been a widower for close to three years, he married Roberta Lyn Braun in 1983. They had two children, and he had two children from his first marriage to Stella Farley.
Deacon Farley was ordained to the diaconate in 2005 by Archbishop Raymond L. Burke and had been assigned to Assumption Parish since his ordination.
Deacon Farley served for five years as an officer in the U.S. Army Signal Corps.He worked for the former Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. for more than 21 years.
In addition to his sacramental and liturgical duties at Assumption Parish, such as assisting at Mass, celebrating Benedictions, presiding at baptisms and leading Stations of the Cross, Deacon Farley was involved in the parish's RCIA and pro-life programs, conducted baptismal preparation classes and assisted the Metropolitan Tribunal as an advocate for those seeking an annulment. He also worked with the parish's St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta Farley; two sons, Robert G. Farley, III and Benjamin M. Farley, and two daughters, Claire A. Gallo and Sarah L. Farley; four grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Nordmann, Grace Maderos and Debbie Brumley; and a brother, Douglas Farley. Burial was at Assumption Parish Cemetery.
