From the editor | Reliable news source tells of the beauty of our Church
Information is easy to come by. Good information -- the kind that educates, inspires and motivates, is not. In a world that seems to have information overload, it's nice to have a reliable source.
For Catholics in St. Louis, the St. Louis Review is that reliable source. No other local source delivers, week after week, the news of our community -- our parishes, schools, agencies and organizations that make this archdiocese a truly Catholic community.
As an official publication of the Catholic Church, we take very seriously our mandate to present news and views that are consistent with Church teaching. Our stories reveal the beauty of our Church by telling the stories of our families, friends and fellow parishioners. Our Catholic approach means readers get the news in context with Church teaching so they can better live our faith on a daily basis.
Consider the stories in this week's edition:
• An explanation of the bishops' position on the government's contraceptive mandate and how it threatens the conscience rights of Catholics and others;
• The story of thousands of St. Louisans who travelled to our nation's capital to let their pro-life voices be heard;
• Profiles of a local pastor and Catholic school principal who are recognized for their tireless commitment to education;
• Pope Benedict XVI's warning against threats to our religious freedom;
• An update on the progress of remodeling of our storied Kenrick-Glennon Seminary.
Increasingly, readers like to receive their information online. Our website includes many stories found in the print edition plus photo galleries, videos, multimedia presentations and a discussion forum. Together, the print and online editions bring a comprehensive Catholic report not found in any other local source.
Our commitment to quality Catholic journalism is not always easy, nor does it come for free. We are totally self-funded, covering all expenses with subscriptions and advertising.
The staff at the St. Louis Review are professionals, trained and experienced in reporting for our Catholic community. Our editorial team brings more than 110 combined years of experience as Catholic journalists. Their knowledge and experience are invaluable.
Each year, we conduct our subscription campaign in the parishes. This year, our collection falls on Sunday, Jan. 29.
Every household is asked to contribute $23 toward their subscription to the Review. With 50 issues per year, that's just 46 cents per edition. The paid subscription includes full access to the online edition, which includes more than 10 years of stories from the Review.
We are grateful to our loyal readers and pledge to continue to provide you with excellent Catholic news. We hope you will continue to support us with your generosity.
