Please email information and a high-resolution jpg attachment of the card to bwatkins@archstl.org; or mail the information and a copy of the card to Barb Watkins, St. Louis Review, 20 Archbishop May Drive, St. Louis, MO 63119. Cards and information are due by Monday, Nov. 14.

Food shortage

Donations of food have dropped dramatically at a time when a record number of struggling families are seeking help at Circle Of Concern, a Valley Park-based charity. Needed are boxed dinners, canned corn, meat items and pasta with meat, rice and tuna as well as breakfast cereal, salad dressing and condiments, and canned fruit. Circle Of Concern also shares personal hygiene products with families. Demand has been tracking about 15 percent ahead of 2010's rate, depleting Circle's food reserves. This year Circle will feed more almost twice as many people as the charity helped in 2007. Other pantries report similar food shortages, Circle of Concern's Glenn Koenen stated. For more information, see circleofconcern.org.

Fill those bags

Be on the lookout this weekend when local Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, many from Catholic parishes, leave empty plastic bags on your front door knob. It's time once again for Scouting for Food, the 27th annual drive to help fill more than 500 area food pantries. Scouts will leave the bags Saturday, Nov. 12, and pick them up -- hopefully filled with nutritious, nonperishable food items -- on Saturday, Nov. 19. For more information, go to stlbsa.org.

New board members

Two new members have been elected to the board of the Today and Tomorrow Educational Foundation. They are Joseph Conran, co-chairman of Husch Blackwell LLP law firm and former board president of Cardinal Ritter College Prep High School, and Craig Fowler, managing director of Bank of America Merrill Lynch Capital Access Funds. Today and Tomorrow provides needs-based tuition assistance scholarships to low-income children throughout the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

Eagle Scouts

Two Scouts at St. Angela Merici Parish in Florissant recently completed their Eagle Scout projects. Austin Smith, a junior at St. Louis University High School, organized a 35-foot by 14-foot patio overlooking the athletic fields at St. Angela. The patio is surrounded by two retaining walls, and serves as an area to sit and enjoy outdoor events at the parish. Mike Kremer, a senior at DeSmet Jesuit High School, created a three-tiered stadium seating area on the athletic fields. The 35-foot long area has three-foot walls and has corrected a once-existing erosion problem on the grounds. Each project generated almost 1,000 hours of service. The two projects also received the support of parishioners.

The members of the fifth-grade Girl Scout Junior Troop 2984 of St. Cletus School in St. Charles have earned the Bronze Award, the highest award a Junior Troop can achieve, by completing a service project for Room at the Inn. St. Cletus is part of a network of interfaith congregations that host Room at the Inn guests monthly.
