Catholic Cemeteries provides monthly grave decoration removal service
The Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of St. Louis offers a grave decoration removal service at all of its locations.
Removals take place beginning the second Wednesday of the month and continuing the following day, on Thursday, from February through November. Removals will begin at 7:30 a.m. There will be no removal period in December or January to allow more time for holiday memorials to remain at grave sites.
Silk or other artificial flowers are recommended at the grave sites. Health officials have warned against open containers of water, including flower vases and jars. Cemetery rules also do not allow permanent metal, glass and ceramic vases.
No more than two decorations are allowed at each grave and should have a religious theme in keeping with the sacred nature of the cemetery. Decorations such as potted plants, votive and solar lights, balloons, wind chimes, shepherd's hooks and bird houses are not allowed.
Decorations allowed at graves during Christmas include grave coverings, wreaths on easels, poinsettia in cones and 12- to 18-inch Christmas trees.
For more information, call Catholic Cemeteries at (314) 381-1313 (north office) or (314) 352-5300 (south office). Office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Offices are closed on Sundays, holy days and legal holidays.
