Q: Why do the laypeople bring forward the gifts of bread and wine to the priest?
A: In the 1940s, Msgr. Martin Hellriegel, pastor of Holy Cross Parish in Baden, caused quite a stir when he instigated the unheard-of practice of having the laity bring forward the bread and wine at Mass in an "offertory procession."A subscription is required to access this content.
