Gang members' stories stir compassion, acceptance

They left inspired by stories of compassion and how people on the margins of society are no different than they are, especially when they find acceptance. Jesuit Father Gregory Boyle, the opening speaker, noted the theme of the National Convocation of Jail and Prison Ministry, "Presence on the Edges," and pointed to the need to create "a community of kinship so God might recognize it, and so there's not 'us' and 'them.'"
