Catholic Charities of St. Louis is seeking donations to be distributed to disaster response agencies currently working to help tornado victims in Joplin, Mo. By May 24, at least 116 people in the Joplin area were confirmed dead from the May 22 tornado. Some 2,000 buildings were damaged in the southwestern Missouri city. The tornado destroyed the church, school and rectory of one of two Catholic parishes in Joplin and seriously damaged a Catholic hospital there.
