Missouri treatment courts divert 10,000 graduates from prison 

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly versionSend to friendSend to friendSince the inception in 1993 of treatment courts in Missouri, 10,000 graduates — nonviolent, substance-addicted offenders — have been diverted from the state prison system. A ceremony recognizing the achievement took place April 7 at the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City, and the Missouri General Assembly also commended treatment court programs and graduates. The Catholic bishops of Missouri have supported alternative sentencing options such as drug courts, the Missouri re-entry program and probation and parole policies that enhance public safety.
