Dear Father | Church's instructions for the Rite of Baptism
Submitted on April 13, 2011
Msgr. Matthew Mitas
Question:
My parish has the policy of not baptizing babies during Lent. I’ve never heard of this before. Is this proper?Msgr. Mitas' answer:
While there is no authoritative statute that forbids Baptism during Lent, the Church's liturgical law does afford great latitude to the pastor of the parish to determine the time for Baptism. In the instruction for the Rite of Baptism, the Church directs that he follow theses directives:- In danger of death, a child is to be baptized "without delay."
