Obituaries | Sr. Mary Francina Keane, CSJ
A funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 28 at Nazareth Living Center Chapel in South County for Sister Mary Francina Keane, a retired teacher.
Sister Mary Francina, 94, died Feb. 23 at Nazareth of end-stage dementia.
Born in St. Louis, she entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1935 and was received into the novitiate in 1936. She received a bachelor's degree in Latin from Fontbonne College in 1947.
Sister Mary Francina taught school in the St. Louis Archdiocese at St. Bridget in North St. Louis, l939-44; Notre Dame in Wellston, l952-54; Sts. John and James in Ferguson, l954-64; and St. Rita in Vinita Park, 1964-66. She served as a St. Joseph Provincial House staff member from l985-89. Sister Mary Francina also taught in Negaunee, Mich.; Chicago; Shawano, Wis.; Denver; Mobile, Ala.; and Waco, Texas. She retired in l985, moving to St. Anthony Convent in St. Louis and doing volunteer service. She lived at Nazareth Living Center since 1995.
Survivors include a sister, Frances Keane of St. Louis. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery.
