CAPE TOWN, South Africa — While Liberians at the West African country's border are welcoming Ivorian refugees into their homes, more coordinated intervention is needed to help the estimated 30,000 people fleeing political conflict in the Ivory Coast, said John Luckie, who heads the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace in Liberia's Diocese of Gbarnga. "With people moving around in such huge numbers, there is an enormous need for food and lodging, as well as health concerns," said Luckie, who has twice been to the border areas that have been most affected by the crisis.
