Father Douglas Marcouiller, provincial of the Jesuits’ Missouri Province, refers to lay volunteers who serve in the Alum Service Corps, the Ignatian Volunteer Corps and the Jesuit Volunteer Corps as “a close-knit group of friends — friends with each other and the poor.”
