Question:

What exactly is canon law? If it’s a set of laws for Catholics, I’d be interested in reading it. How can one obtain a copy?

Father  Dietzen's answer:

The Code of Canon Law is a body of regulations that govern the life of the Catholic Church, from how the pope is elected and who can receive the sacraments to the rights and duties of laypeople, priests and bishops. As an institution made up of human beings, the Church has always had rules or "canons" (Greek for "precepts" or "laws") of some sort. We find them already in the New Testament.
