Question:
What is the origin of the requirement that our priests be celibate?Father Lombardi's answer:
The practice and discipline that our priests need to be celibate are held to be warranted by Christ Himself in Matthew (19: 11-12): "Not all men can receive this saying but only those to whom it is given. For there are eunuchs who have been so since birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven."A subscription is required to access this content.
