As they inspected the tiny models with great curiosity, Jeannine Sinak pointed out to her first- through third-graders why a baby has an umbilical cord. Third-grader Michael Giegling blurted out: "My umbilical cord was in a knot when I was born!" Sinak nodded as she told her students, "that's our form of nutrition" before babies are born.
