Msgr. Jerome Sommer delights in talking about history — especially the kind he’s lived through himself. At age 95, Msgr. Sommer has a sharp mind for detail, recalling names, dates and events from long ago with clarity. Much of that history is military history, since Msgr. Sommer served from 1945 to 1974 as a U.S. Army chaplain, about half of the time overseas in the Philippines, Japan, Hawaii, Germany, Korea, Turkey and Vietnam.
