A funeral Mass was celebrated Aug. 11 for Sister Mary Ann Kreutzman, a longtime educator, in the School Sisters of Notre Dame Motherhouse Chapel in Lemay.

Sister Mary Ann died Aug. 6 at Anna House-The Sarah Community in Bridgeton from cancer at age 78.

A St. Louis native, she entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1949 from St. Barbara Parish in St. Louis. As a child, Sister Mary Ann admired her SSND teachers at St. Barbara and felt a calling to become one of them. Receiving the religious name Sister Edward Marie, she professed first vows in 1951 and final vows in 1957. She earned a bachelor's degree in economics from the former Notre Dame College in St. Louis in 1961 and a master's degree in secondary administration from St. Louis University in 1968.

Sister Mary Ann was an educator for nearly 50 years, serving in Missouri and Illinois. In the St. Louis Archdiocese, she taught at St. Joseph in Kimmswick, 1952-55; St. Andrew in Lemay, 1961-63; Rosary High School in North St. Louis County, 1964-68 and 1970-81; and Rosati-Kain High School in the Central West End, 1985-97. She was also a substitute teacher for the Archdiocese of St. Louis, 1998-2001. From 2000-03, she served at Notre Dame High School in Lemay as supervisor of the media center and study areas.

"Sister Mary Ann had a prayerful and contemplative spirit that permeated everything she did," said Sister Janise Berberich, SSND. "She was a peaceful and calm person, supportive, fun-loving and deeply interested in all the happenings of her family and the School Sisters of Notre Dame."

Survivors include a sister, Virginia Randolph of New Melle. Burial was in the motherhouse cemetery.
