The Ninth and Tenth Commandments forbid what may be called "sins of desire" (concupiscence). In our Church's catechetical tradition, the Ninth Commandment forbids carnal concupiscence — inappropriate desires of the flesh — while the Tenth Commandment forbids inappropriate desire for material things — coveting another's goods. Intense, inappropriate desires lead us away from what is truly good for us.
