'Dear Father' | Status of children born of a lawful marriage after an annulment
Question:
I know a couple whose marriage was annulled by the Church. They had four children. Doesn’t the annulment make their children illegitimate?
Msgr.Mitas' answer:
It always bemuses me that we are so eager to attach the title "illegitimate" to the children of an unlawful union. Those children are beautiful creatures of God and blameless of anything except their share of Adam's fall. Shouldn't we rather be calling the parents illegitimate? After all, they're the ones who broke the law and sinned.
